How Can a Painful Lump On The Neck Be Treated?

While shaving this morning I noticed a small lump on the lower left side of my neck. In the past I have had two surgeries on the thyroid, one cancerous and one benign. The entire thyroid has been removed and I am on synthroid for over 35 Years. Should I be concerned and should I contact my family doctor or a specialist. My email is wahamh 2@aol.com. Thank You.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
A painful lump should be investigated.
The possibility of recurrence of thyroid malignancy is remote especially when you are euthyroid, still you need to consult your doctor to know the cause of lump.
Painful lump suggests infection.
I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for pain killer and aspiration of lump to know the cause of symptoms.

Thanks and take care
